White Bread

Grandma's White Bread
Recipe type: Bread
  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 10 cups flour
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 4 cups warm water
  • 1⅓ cups powdered milk
  • ⅓ cup oil
  1. Dissolve yeast in ½ cup warm water with 1 teaspoon sugar.
  2. Let stand for 10 min.
  3. Combine flour, salt and sugar together.
  4. Add liquid and dissolved yeast to flour.
  5. Knead for about 15 min.
  6. Place in a greased bowl, cover and set in warm place to rise.
  7. When double in bulk, punch down and let rise again.
  8. Shape into 3 loaves, let rise until light.
  9. Bake 50 min. at 350⁰.
  10. Turn out and brush top with butter.
1–If using rapid rise yeast, mix yeast with 2 cups of the flour, mix with the warm water, and then add the rest of the ingredients. You also can skip the first rising.

2–You can use 2 c. water and 2 c. milk instead of the water and powdered milk.
