Pie Crust
Recipe type: Dessert
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. sugar
  • ½ tsp. baking powder
  • ½ cup butter or margarine
  • ½ cup + 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  1. Cut butter and shortening into dry ingredients. Break egg into measuring cup. Beat with fork. Add vinegar and fill to ½ cup with ice water. Very carefully mix in just enough liquid so that it comes together but is not sticky. You may not need all the liquid. Use lots of flour on pastry cloth when rolling out. Makes 2 pie crusts.
*I now use only ½ cup of the shortening, or a blend of shortening and lard.
