English Toffee
Recipe type: Dessert
  • 3 cups finely chopped nuts (this is generous, 2½ cups would probably be fine)
  • 12 oz. chocolate, finely grated (a big bag of good chocolate chips works fine)
  • ½ lbs. butter (not margarine)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. water
  1. Divide ½ nuts between 2 pie pans. Do the same with the chocolate. Cook butter, sugar, and water over high heat, stirring constantly until the color of a brown paper sack. Pour into pans. Sprinkle with remaining chocolate and then nuts. Press slightly. Cool and refrigerate. When cool, turn out of pans and break into serving size pieces. (I refrigerate only if in a hurry.)
