Ingredients
  • ¾ cup shortening (margarine)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • 2 tsp soda
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. cloves
Instructions
  1. Cream together shortening, brown sugar, molasses, and egg until light and fluffy.
  2. Sift together dry ingredients; stir into molasses mixture until blended.
  3. Form into small balls. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake 350-375⁰ about 10 minutes. Remove from pan immediately.
  5. Makes about 5 dozen (small). Works better to chill dough before baking.
